The key to successfully removing an oil pastel stain is to act quickly. The sooner you treat the stain, the easier and more effective the cleaning process will be. Start by laying the stained fabric flat on a clean surface. DO NOT rub or scrub the stain – this can cause the oil to spread further and can end up making the stain worse.
It's important to note that certain fabrics, such as silk or wool, may require an alternative cleaning method. If item can be safely washed in a machine, place it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with a mild liquid detergent. Do not add any bleach or fabric softener, as this could cause stain to set and make it impossible to remove.
If the fabric isn't colourfast, it's best to take the shirt to a professional dry cleaner. This way, you can be sure that the stain will be safely and effectively removed without causing any damage to the fabric.
