Step 1: Clean the Area

Using a soft cloth or paper towel, begin to blot the stained area. You will want to blot rather than rub oil pastel off of the fabric as rubbing could spread the stain further. Use warm water to dampen the cloth or paper towel if needed.

Step 2: Apply a Stain Remover

Once you have blotted as much of the stain as possible, apply a gentle stain remover to area. An enzyme-based cleaner is best in these situations as it can break down the oils that make up the stain. Once the stain remover has been applied, allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse and Dry

Rinse the area, using warm water and a clean cloth or paper towel. Blot the area until stain is no longer visible. Finally, let the area air dry by hanging it up or laying it flat.

Tips and Warnings

  • Be sure to test any product you use on a small patch of the fabric before applying it. This will ensure that the product does not discolor or damage the material.
  • Always use cold or lukewarm water when cleaning the area, hot water may set the stain into the fabric.
