The first step in removing an oil pastel stain is to determine exactly where it is located. If you're dealing with an oil stain on a garment that's made of delicate fabric like a bikini, you'll need to pay extra attention to this step. Start by dabbing the fabric with a cloth or paper towel. This will help you identify the exact areas of the bikini that have been stained.
Once you have identified the stained area, you can begin to treat it. Use a cloth or a cotton ball dampened with mineral spirits to blot the stain. Avoid scrubbing as this could spread stain further or damage the fabric. You may need to repeat this step several times before the stain starts to lift.
If you find that the mineral spirits aren't getting the job done, you could try using rubbing alcohol or laundry detergent. Again, use a cloth or cotton ball to apply either of these solutions directly to the stain. Let liquid sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Alternatively, if you have a dry-cleaning product available, you can try spot treating stain with this solution.
Once you've treated stain, it's time to finally get rid of it. Wash the bikini according to the instructions on the label. Use cold water and a gentle detergent to avoid damaging the fabric. If the instructions advise that the bikini should be washed separately, make sure to do so. After washing, allow the garment to air dry.
Oil pastel stains can be annoying but don't fret! With these four steps, you can easily remove them from your bikini without much hassle. Just remember to take your time and be gentle—this way, you'll ensure that the fabric won't be damaged in the process.
