Oil pastels, much like other art mediums, can cause a variety of messes. If you or someone in your family has gotten oil pastel on a hair barrette, it can seem difficult to clean up - but we make it easier! Here's what you need to do:
Step 1: Blot up excess oil
Take a paper towel or cotton cloth and press down on the stained area. This will help remove any excess oil that is on the surface of the barrette.
Step 2: Apply a cleaning solution
Mix together equal amounts of white vinegar and water in a bowl. Dip a cloth into the solution and wring it out. Gently rub the stained area with the damp cloth. Be sure to use circular motions until the stain begins to lift. This should take about one minute.
Step 3: Rinse off the solution
Rinse the barrette under warm running water to remove the vinegar. Then, give barrette one final rinse using a solution of mild dishwashing soap diluted with water. Let the barrette air dry before using it.
And there you have it! With these simple steps, you'll be able to easily clean oil pastel stains from hair barrettes and they'll look brand new again.
