Gather the Necessary Cleaning Supplies

Begin by gathering your supplies so you're ready to start cleaning. You'll need:

  • A soft, dry cloth
  • Rubbing alcohol or white vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • An old toothbrush (optional)

Wipe Excess Oil off with a Dry Cloth

The first step is to wipe away any excess oil pastel stain on your accessory with a dry cloth. Gently dab stain until no more color is coming off the fabric. Do not rub the fabric or attempt to scrub the stain off.

Apply Rubbing Alcohol or White Vinegar

Once the excess oil has been wiped away, you can apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol or white vinegar directly to the stain. Let the liquid sit on the stain for a few minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Add Dish Soap and Scrub

After the alcohol or vinegar has sat on the stain for a few minutes, add a few drops of dish soap to the area. Use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the area in a circular motion for about a minute. The soap should help break up the oil pastel clinging to your fabric.

Rinse and Dry

After you've finished scrubbing stain with soap, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water. Then, use a dry cloth to blot away any excess moisture. Leave item out to air dry completely.
