7 Easy Steps for Effortlessly Removing Oil Pastel Stains

• Treat the stain as soon as possible. As with any kind of stain, the sooner you can tackle it, the better chance you have of removing it quickly and effectively.
• Scrape up excess material. Use a dull knife to carefully scrape away any extra oil pastel from the stain. Don’t press too hard, as this could make the stain worse.
• Dab the stain with rubbing alcohol. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly to the stain and gently dab it with a clean cloth or sponge. This should help to remove some of the color and lighten the stain.
• Create a paste with dish soap and baking soda. If the rubbing alcohol didn’t remove all of the stain, mix a dollop of dish soap with enough baking soda to create a paste-like consistency. Apply the paste to the stain and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
• Wash the fabric. Pre-treat the garment if necessary, and then throw it in the wash according to the care instructions. The dish soap and baking soda paste should help to remove the rest of the stain during the washing process.
• Use a carpet cleaning machine. If you got oil pastel on your carpets, first use the same scraping technique mentioned above, followed by applying rubbing alcohol to the area. From there fill a carpet cleaning machine with warm water and use it to scrub the stain.
• Consider professional help. If you still have not been able to get rid of the stain, consider taking the item to a professional cleaner for assistance.
