What You'll Need

  • Clean cloths
  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Borax

Step 1: Blotting

Begin by blotting the stain with a clean cloth. Do not scrub, as this may cause the nail polish to spread.

Step 2: Soap and Water

Mix a teaspoon of dish soap with a cup of warm water in a bowl, and use a cloth to dab the mixture onto the stained area. Allow mixture to sit for a few minutes before rinsing away with a damp cloth.

Step 3: White Vinegar Solution

Mix together equal parts white vinegar and water, and apply the solution directly to the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse away with a damp cloth. Repeat if necessary until the stain is gone.

Step 4: Borax Paste

Mix three parts Borax with one part water to make a paste. Rub the paste directly onto the stain, and allow to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing away with a damp cloth. Repeat if necessary until the stain is gone.

Additional Tips

  • If the stain is particularly stubborn, try a combination of steps 1-4, starting with blotting, then applying the dish soap solution, then the white vinegar, then the Borax paste.
  • Always test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the tie before using it on the stained area.
  • Always rinse away any cleaning solution before moving on to the next step.
