When accidental spills happen, you want to know you can clean them up quickly and effectively. Imagine this scenario: you’ve just done your nails for a special occasion, and as you’re getting dressed, you drop your bottle of nail polish and it splatters on your nice underwear. Don’t panic! With right methods, you can easily remove the nail polish stains and keep your underwear looking good as new.

Step One: Blotting

The first step in removing nail polish stains is to gently blot the stain with a paper towel or piece of cloth. Be sure not to rub, as this might push the nail polish further into fabric and make it harder to remove. If the stain has dried, you may need to wet area with a damp cloth before blotting.

Step Two: Pre-Treat

Once you’ve blotted away any excess nail polish, the next step is to pre-treat stain with a product containing enzymes or oxygen bleach. Check the label of your chosen product to make sure it’s safe for use on the particular type of fabric you’re dealing with. Follow the directions on the package and let the pre-treatment sit for at least 15 minutes before washing.

Step Three: Wash

After pre-treating the stain, it’s time to wash it. To preserve the quality of your garment, it’s best to choose a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Do not use bleach or other harsh chemicals, and avoid hot water, which could set the stain. After the wash cycle is finished, check to make sure the stain is gone. If not, you may need to repeat process.

Step Four: Air Dry or Machine Dry

Once garment is washed, you can either air dry it or machine dry it. If air drying, it’s best to hang the garment on a clothesline or lay it flat on a drying rack. Avoid using clothespins, as they may leave marks on the fabric. For machine drying, check your garment’s care instructions for the temperature setting and choose a low heat. Remove the garment from the dryer as soon as possible to avoid wrinkles.

That’s all there is to it! With these easy steps, you can remove nail polish stains from your underwear quickly and easily.
