Nail polish stains can be a real eyesore! Unfortunately, they can also be quite stubborn — but there is hope. Here are several methods you can use to remove nail polish stains from Tommy Hilfiger clothing.

Method 1: Rubbing Alcohol

Soaking the stained area in rubbing alcohol is a good place to start. It’s a relatively non-toxic solution that can break down the remnants of nail polish. To try this method:

  • Mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and cold water in a bowl.
  • Dampen a cloth or cotton ball with the solution and gently blot it onto the stain. Don’t rub, or you may spread stain further.
  • Let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse with cold water.
  • Repeat until the stain has been removed.

Method 2: Nail Polish Remover

Nail polish remover is designed to break down nail polish, so you can use it on stains as well. Make sure to use a non-acetone variety and always test any solution on an inconspicuous part of the garment first.

  • Apply a small dab of nail polish remover to a cotton ball or cloth.
  • Gently blot the stained area. Don’t rub, or you may spread the stain further.
  • Leave for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse the area with cold water.
  • Repeat until the stain has been removed.

Method 3: Dishwashing Detergent

If the previous two methods don’t work, dishwashing detergent may do the trick. Here’s how:

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with 2 cups of warm water in a bowl.
  • Dab the stained area with a cloth soaked in the mixture.
  • Leave for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse with warm water.
  • Repeat until stain has been removed.

Additional Tips

  • Don’t rub the stain — continually blot it instead.
  • Be sure to rinse the area with cold water after applying any solution.
  • If you’re using a chemical cleaner, always test it on a hidden part of the garment first to make sure it won’t cause discoloration.
  • If the stain still won’t come out, try adding a little laundry detergent to the solution.
