Removing Wet Nail Polish

If the nail polish is still wet, first thing to do is to avoid rubbing or scrubbing affected area. This could spread the stain and make it harder to remove. Instead, use a paper towel to blot at the stain as soon as possible. Take care not to rub the towel too hard, as this can damage the fabric.

Removing Dried Nail Polish

When tackling dried nail polish, the first step is to scrape away any excess. To do this, use a blunt knife. Make sure to scrape gently so as not to cause new tears or damage the fabric.

Once the excess has been scraped away, mix one part white vinegar with two parts water in a small bowl. Dip a clean rag or towel into the mixture, then lightly dab at the stain. You should start to see some success right away. If any of the nail polish remains, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to the affected area. Use a soft brush and gently scrub the remaining stain in circular motions until most of it has been removed.

Removing Nail Polish with Baking Soda

Mix equal parts of baking soda and water in a bowl to create a paste. Apply the paste to stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Once the time is up, rinse off the paste and use a soft cloth to gently rub off any remaining stain.

When All Else Fails...

If none of these approaches are successful in removing nail polish, it might be time to call in professionals. There are specialty cleaning services which specialize in treating delicate fabrics.

Preventing Nail Polish Stains

The best way to combat nail polish stains is, of course, to try and prevent them in the first place. Make sure to keep all bottles of nail polish out of reach, especially when camping with children. If a nail polish spill does occur, remember to act fast, and don't hesitate to call in professional help if needed.
