Step 1: Identify the Stain and Remove Excess Nail Polish

Start by identifying the stained area. Then, using a soft cloth, try to carefully remove any excess nail polish that hasn’t dried yet. If there is a lot of nail polish, you may need to repeat this step several times until all excess has been removed.

Step 2: Prepare a Cleaning Solution

To avoid damaging the silk dupioni, you’ll need to use a solution that doesn’t contain bleach or any other harsh chemicals. The best way to do this is to mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and squeeze out the excess liquid before applying it onto the stain.

Step 3: Apply and Blot the Stain

Gently dab wet cloth onto nail polish stain and apply pressure in order to blot the stain from the fabric. Avoid rubbing the stain, as this could cause the nail polish to spread.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry the Fabric

Once you’ve blotted all of the stain, rinse the area with clean water and then pat it dry with a towel. You may need to repeat steps 2 and 3 in order to completely remove the stain.

Step 5: Repeat Until Stain is Gone

If the stain remains after following these steps, you may need to use a commercial cleaner specifically designed for silk fabrics. Follow the directions on the package. Once you’ve removed the stain, hang the fabric to dry and inspect for signs of damage.
