You'll want to start by gently scraping away any excess nail polish with a plastic knife or spoon. Even if the spill is already dry, the scraping will help prevent the stain from setting even more. Be sure to avoid any rough surfaces, as this may cause further damage to the fabric.
Once you've scraped away the excess, mix together 1 tablespoon of dish soap with 2 cups of warm water in a bowl or sink. Submerge the spot of the stain into soap mixture and let it soak for about 15 minutes. This will help loosen the remnants of the polish and begin actively breaking it down.
After the stain has sat and soaked for 15 minutes, it's time to wash it in the washing machine. Be sure to follow the instructions on the care label of the garment before doing so. If there are no instructions, you can use the gentle cycle with cold water and a non-bleach detergent. Hang the garment up to air dry once finished.
Nail polish stains can be tough to remove from fabrics, but with a few simple steps, you can get those stubborn spots out of your outerwear. Follow the steps we've outlined above and you'll have your clothing looking like new in no time. Good luck!
