Tools and Materials Needed

  • Warm water
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Laundry detergent or stain remover

Step One: Soak in Warm Water

The first step is to fill a sink or a bucket with warm water and dunk the item inside. Let the item soak in the water for a few minutes. This should help lift the pigment from fabric.

Step Two: Make a Cleaning Solution

Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar, 1/3 cup baking soda, and 1/3 cup warm water together and stir until they are fully combined. This mixture should create a cleaning solution that can help break up the stain and make it easier to get rid of.

Step Three: Apply the Cleaning Solution to the Stain

Using a soft-bristled brush, apply the cleaning solution directly to the stain and gently scrub. Then, let the cleaned area sit for 5 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Step Four: Launder as Usual

Once you’ve done this, you can launder the item as usual. When laundering, use a laundry detergent or a stain remover to help remove the remaining stain.
