Sometimes your favorite hair accessories can suffer from nail polish staining. When this happens, it can be incredibly frustrating because it feels like you’ve lost a key part of you. Fortunately, there are some simple steps you can take to clean your hair clips and make them look as good as new.
Steps for Cleaning Nail Polish from Hair Clips
- Gently scrape the excess nail polish from the hair clip with a soft cloth. This should remove any loose nail polish that is on surface of the clip.
- Make a paste with baking soda and water and use a cotton swab to apply it to the stained portion of the clip. Leave the paste on the clip for 10 minutes and then use a damp cloth to wipe away any residue.
- If the stain persists, apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol to a cotton swab and dab it on stain. Leave the alcohol on stain for several minutes and then use a damp cloth to remove any residue.
- If the stain still won’t come out, mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl. Dip a soft cloth into the mixture and rub it onto the stained portion of clip until the stain is gone. Dry the clip with a soft cloth.
Tips for Preventing Nail Polish Stains on Hair Clips
- Avoid wearing hair clips with nail polish on them. This can prevent any accidental spills or drips.
- When applying nail polish, make sure to wipe off any excess polish that may get on your hands.
- If you are using decorative clips, make sure to store them in an airtight container so that they don’t come into contact with any nail polish.
- If you accidentally get nail polish on your hair clips, act quickly and clean it off as soon as possible.
