Accidents happen when freshening up, so don't throw out your cotton clothing just yet. With a few household items and a bit of patience, you'll be able to get rid of the unsightly nail polish stains on cotton.
Instructions
- As soon as the nail polish stain appears, quickly blot the area with a paper towel or tissue. This will blot away excess nail polish quickly.
- Create a paste of equal parts dish soap and baking soda. Dampen the stained area before applying the paste. Spread the paste over stained area, letting it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the paste into the fabric in circular motions. This will help lift the nail polish stain, while being gentle enough not to harm the fabric.
- Rinse the stained area with cold water, making sure to wash away all the dish soap and baking soda residue.
- If stain isn't completely removed, repeat the steps, adding a bit of lemon juice to the paste to help break up the pigment of the nail polish.
- Launder the garment according to the instructions on the care label. Dry the clothing on low heat or air dry as normal.
Tips and Warnings
- Using nonbio laundry detergent will prevent any harmful color-bleeding.
- Do not use hot water when using the dish soap and baking soda paste. This will cause the nail polish to bleed further into the fabric.
