Things You'll Need

  • A clean cloth
  • White vinegar
  • Detergent (liquid or powder)
  • Salt

Step 1: Blot the Stain With a Clean Cloth

The first step to removing nail polish from a collared shirt is to gently blot the stain with a clean, dry cloth. Don't rub, as that could spread the stain or make it difficult to remove. Keep blotting until you're sure all of the nail polish is off of the surface.

Step 2: Make a Mixture of Vinegar and Salt

To really tackle the stain, mix together two tablespoons of white vinegar and one tablespoon of salt. This mixture creates an effective cleaning agent that will help break down the stain. Stir the mixture until the salt has fully dissolved.

Step 3: Apply the Mixture to Stain and Let Sit

Once your mixture is ready, apply it to the stained area with a cloth. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Step 4: Wash the Shirt

Finally, you should wash the shirt in cold water with a detergent like liquid laundry detergent. Allow the washing machine to finish cycle, then hang the shirt out to air dry.
