Before you start removing the stain, it’s important to have all necessary supplies. Blotting cloths are essential as they will help you remove the excess nail polish without spreading it around. Consider having a variety of blotting cloths in different materials, such as paper towels, cotton balls and cotton swabs. Another essential cleaning tool is a good detergent. Opt for one that is designed for gently hand-washing fabrics such as chiffon georgette.
With your supplies gathered, the next step is to prepare the garment. If the fabric is machine-washable, turn the garment inside out and place it in a mesh laundry bag and set your washing machine to the gentle cycle. If the fabric isn’t machine-washable, you will need to hand wash it. Beforehand, carefully read the care instructions provided by the manufacturer to make sure you take right approach.
Next, it’s time to remove the stain. Start by using a blotting cloth to remove any excess nail polish on the fabric, then use a mild detergent or stain remover and spot treat area. To do this, dab the stained area with a cloth soaked in the solution, as rubbing could push the nail polish further into the fabric. Once the stain has been treated, rinse the area with cold running water or by submerging it in a bowl filled with cold water. Finally, allow the garment to air dry in a well-ventilated area.
If the stain is still present after following the previous steps, don’t worry. Try repeating the process until you get the desired result. If the stain still persists, consider taking the garment to a professional cleaner who can use more potent stain removers and techniques.
