Before attempting to remove the stain, it’s important to figure out which type of fabric is stained. Most bodycon dresses are made from polyester, spandex, polyester-cotton blends, or nylon – all of these are relatively strong fabrics that can take a bit more effort to clean.

Step 1: Remove Excess Nail Polish with Acetone

The best way to start cleaning a nail polish stain is to use acetone (available in drugstores). Put some acetone on a cotton swab or a cloth, and gently dab the stained area. You don’t want to rub the stain away as this might damage the fabric. This method should remove any excess nail polish, so it makes the next steps easier.

Step 2: Mix a Detergent Solution

To get rid of any remaining stains, create a detergent solution by combining one teaspoon of mild liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of cool water. Mix the solution thoroughly before soaking a clean cloth in the mixture.

Step 3: Apply the Solution to Stain

Take the soaked cloth and gently dab it onto the affected area. Don’t rub or scrub the stain as this could spread it and make it even harder to remove. After applying the solution, let the bodycon dress air dry. Repeat this step until stain is gone.

Step 4: Wash Dress

If there’s still some residue from the nail polish, simply wash your bodycon dress with a few drops of liquid detergent and then rinse it thoroughly. Afterwards, hang it up to dry and see if stain is gone. If it’s still visible, repeat the process until you get the desired results.

Sticking to these steps when removing nail polish stains should give you the best possible results. However, if the stain is still present after trying the above methods, it’s best to take the dress to a professional dry cleaner.
