Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. First thing’s first: Check garment’s care tag for the specific cleaning instructions for that particular material. Some fabrics may require special care, such as dry-cleaning or hand washing.
  2. If the garment is safe to be washed, use a soft bristle toothbrush to scrub gently at the stained area with cold water and a mild detergent.
  3. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to dab soapy water onto stained area. This will help break up dried nail polish and lift it out of clothing.
  4. Once you’ve worked the stain out, rinse the fabric well with cold water and check to see if the stain has been removed. If not, repeat steps 2-3 until the stain has been lifted.
  5. If the clothing is safe to be machine washed, run it through a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild detergent. Be sure to check clothing once the wash cycle is finished, to make sure nail polish stain has been removed.
  6. Finally, hang or lay the garment flat to air dry.

Extra Tips

  • Use a pre-wash stain remover specifically designed for removing nail polish from clothing.
  • In a pinch, rubbing alcohol can also be used to remove nail polish stains. Just be sure to test the rubbing alcohol in an inconspicuous area of the garment first to make sure it won’t damage the fabric.
