The first thing you should do is pre-treat the stain as soon as possible. Before attempting to wash the garment, spray the stain with a stain remover or soak the clothing in a mixture of one cup of white vinegar mixed with two cups of cold water. This will help loosen up the stain before it sets into the fabric.
Once pre-treated, you can begin to wash the clothing. Use a detergent specifically for removing stains, or a mild laundry soap. Set your washing machine on a warm water cycle and add a cup of white vinegar to the water. The vinegar will help to break down the stain and make it easier to remove.
Hang the garment on a clothes line or drying rack and allow it to air dry. To prevent the stain from setting in or reappearing, be sure to avoid putting garment in dryer.
If the stain persists, repeat the process until it is gone. Be patient and don't give up! Treating the stain and laundering the clothing multiple times may be necessary in order to completely remove the stain.
Mustard stains can be tricky to get rid of, but with the right steps they can be successfully removed. Pre-treat the stain, launder clothing with a detergent specifically designed for removing stains, hang the garment to air dry, and repeat process if necessary. With a little bit of patience, your traditional outfit will be looking like new in no time!
