Things You'll Need

  • Cold water
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloths or a soft brush
  • Oxygen-based bleach

Step One: Act Quickly

As soon as you notice the mustard stain, act quickly! If the stain is still wet, use cold water and a cloth to blot it gently. Use a dabbing motion rather than rubbing, as this is more gentle on the fabric and reduces the risk of spreading the stain.

Step Two: Apply Dishwashing Liquid

If the stain has already dried, mix some dishwashing liquid with cold water and use a soft cloth or a soft brush dipped in the mixture to gently apply it to the affected area. Let it stand for about 10 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water.

Step Three: Try White Vinegar

If the dishwashing liquid doesn't do the trick, try white vinegar. Dilute some white vinegar with cold water and apply it to the stain. As before, let it stand for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Step Four: Use Oxygen-Based Bleach

If the stain persists, try using an oxygen-based bleach. Mix it with cold water according to the package instructions, apply it to the stained area, and let it stand for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cold water, and the stain should be gone!
