Grab a butter knife and scrape off any excess mustard on stain. Be sure not to rub or press into fabric too hard, as this can spread the stain deeper into the shirts fibers.
Next, apply a small amount of liquid laundry detergent directly onto stained area. You should be careful not to use one with bleach in it, as it can cause discoloration in some materials. Let detergent sit on stain for anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, or until the stain is visibly lighter.
Once the stain has been lightened, rinse it under cold water until all of the detergent has been washed away. Then, put your shirt into the washing machine on a gentle cycle using cold water and regular detergent. Do not add any other clothing items to the machine.
When the cycle has finished, hang shirt to dry in a well-ventilated area. Do not place the shirt into dryer; the heat from the machine may set the stain, making it impossible to remove.
