The best chance you have for successfully removing a mustard stain is to act quickly and soak the affected area in cold water as soon as possible. Cold water helps keep the stain from setting into the material, making it easier to remove.
Mix together 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and 2 cups of lukewarm water. You can also use a store-bought stain removal product if you prefer. Be sure to check the product label to ensure that it’s safe to use on the type of fabric you’re cleaning.
Apply a few drops of the detergent solution directly onto the mustard stain and gently rub the material together. This should help the solution penetrate the stain and start to lift it away from the fabric fibers. Let the solution sit on the material for about 10 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
Submerge the sleep pants in your cleaning solution and allow them to soak for about 30 minutes. Use a soft brush or cloth to gently scrub at the stain every 10 minutes to help loosen the stain even further.
Carefully remove the pants from the cleaning solution and rinse area with lukewarm water. If any of stain remains, you can repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are satisfied with the results.
After pre-treating and soaking the stained area, it’s time to finish the job. Place the garment in the washing machine with other items and run a load on the gentle cycle. Be sure to check the stain before drying the garment.
