Start by using a white cloth or paper towels to absorb as much of the excess mustard from the silk fabric as possible. Begin gently blotting from outside of the stain and work your way in.
Mix a few drops of gentle detergent with warm water, and then use it to lightly pre-treat the stain. Dip a white cloth into the mixture and gently dab stain, working from the outside in. Make sure not to rub the stain, as that could cause damage to the fabric.
Once you have pre-treated stain, rinse it with clean, lukewarm water. Again, work from the outside of the stain in to avoid spreading the stain.
If the stain still remains, mix 1 teaspoon of ammonia with 1 cup of water, and then apply it to the stain with a white cloth. Work the solution into the stain and then rinse the area with lukewarm water.
Finalize the cleaning process by washing the item according to the instructions on the garment's label. Hang the item out to dry or tumble it on a low setting. Check the stain before putting it in dryer, to make sure it's gone.
Following these steps should help you safely remove mustard stains from your silk taffeta garment. If the stain remains, it's best to take the piece to a professional cleaner for assistance.
