Fill a gallon-sized bucket with cold water. Never use hot water when cleaning a stain, as it can set stain and make it much more difficult to remove.
Mix a few drops of liquid laundry detergent into the cold water. Aim for approximately 1 tablespoon for every gallon of water.
Use a white cloth to dab stain from outside in. Work slowly to avoid spreading the stain further. Refrain from rubbing and scrubbing stain, as this may damage the fabric.
Once the stain has been removed as much as possible, place the item of clothing in bucket and let it soak for 15-30 minutes. This should loosen the remainder of the stain, making it much easier to remove.
When the soaking is complete, rinse off the detergent using cold water. Then lay the item of clothing flat on a white towel.
Use a soft or plastic bristle brush to gently scrub the area that was affected by mustard stain. Avoid using a hard brush, as this may damage the fabric.
Once area is clean, put item into the washing machine and wash it on the coolest setting possible. And, if possible, use a non-chlorine bleach to help remove any lingering residue.
Once the item is washed, dry it on the coolest setting possible. Avoid putting the item into the dryer, as this could cause the stain to set permanently.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully remove mustard stains from your silk charmeuse fabric. But, if in doubt, always consult a professional dry cleaner for help.
