Removing mustard from clothing can seem like an overwhelming task, but it doesn't have to be. With the right tools and approach, you can still wear your favorite shirt with mustard stains.

How to Remove Mustard Stains From Clothing

  1. As soon as possible, remove any solid chunks of mustard. This will make the stain easier to clean.

  2. Soak the stained area in cold water for 15 minutes to loosen the stain.

  3. Using a mild detergent, pretreat the stained area. Rub gently with a soft brush or cloth to help lift the stain.

  4. Rinse the area with warm water, then launder as usual.

  5. To be safe, check inside the garment for any residual stains before drying in the dryer. If there are any remaining stains, repeat Steps 2-4.

Additional Tips for Cleaning Mustard Stains

  • If the stain persists, try using white vinegar. Add a cup of white vinegar to a gallon of warm water and soak the stained area. Then rinse with cold water and launder as usual.

  • For tougher stains, use a prewash stain remover, such as Shout or OxiClean.

  • For delicate fabrics, use a commercial spot cleaner or laundry detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics.
