What You'll Need

  • Sari cleaning solution or mild laundry detergent
  • Warm water
  • Small bucket
  • White cloth or non-abrasive sponge
  • Vinegar

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 teaspoon of sari cleaning solution or mild laundry detergent with 1 cup warm water in small bucket.
  2. Dip your white cloth or sponge into the soapy water, and gently start scrubbing at the mustard stain in a circular motion.
  3. Rinse off your cloth or sponge in clean warm water, then dip it back into soapy water and continue scrubbing the stain.
  4. Once you think the stain has been removed, rinse the affected area with clean warm water again to remove any remaining soap.
  5. If the stain is still visible, mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water and apply to the area using a damp cloth.
  6. Continue to dab the stain until it has completely disappeared.
  7. Let area air dry or use a hairdryer on the cool setting for best results.

Tips

  • While this method should work to remove fresh mustard stains from a silk sari, if the stain has been allowed to set-in for too long, you may need to take it to a professional cleaner.
  • Always test a small inconspicuous area first to make sure cleaning method will not damage the fabric.
