Mustard stains on robes can be one of the most frustrating messes to deal with. The sharp yellow color stands out against fabric and can ruin an otherwise pristine garment if left to sit for too long. Luckily, with the right technique, it is easy to remove such stains.
What You Will Need:
- Water
- Mild detergent (or baking soda)
- White vinegar
- Oxygen-based pre-treatment stain remover/bleach, such as OxiClean
- Old toothbrush
Removing the Stain:
- As soon as you spot the stain, run some cold water over the reverse side of fabric to prevent the stain from setting in deeper. Do not rub material as this can cause the stain to spread.
- Create a cleaning solution by combining a mild detergent with a teaspoon of white vinegar in a bowl of warm water. If you do not have detergent on hand, use baking soda instead.
- Soak the stained area of the robe (on the reverse side) in mixture for a few minutes. To help break down the oils in the mustard, lightly brush the material with an old toothbrush.
- Rinse the area with cold water and then apply a liberal amount of oxygen-based pre-treatment stain remover/bleach to the reverse side of the fabric.
- Soak the area for 15-20 minutes and then machine wash the robe as per the care instructions provided.
If the stain has still not been removed after the wash, repeat steps 4 and 5 before attempting a more advanced method of stain removal, such as dry cleaning or professional laundering.
