Mustard stains can be stubborn and hard to remove, especially from poplin fabric. However, they can be cleaned off with few simple steps.

What you need:

  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Warm water
  • Clean cloths

Step 1: Blot The Stain

Using a clean cloth, dab the stained area so that it absorbs as much of the mustard as possible. Don't rub the stain, as this may spread it further or cause it to set in deeper into the fabric.

Step 2: Pre-Treat With Detergent And Vinegar

Mix some warm water with a few drops of liquid laundry detergent and white vinegar. Dab mixture on stained area using a clean cloth, making sure to work it in gently.

Step 3: Let It Soak

Leave the solution to soak in for 10-15 minutes, then rinse the area with warm water.

Step 4: Scrub With Baking Soda

Make a thick paste with baking soda and water and apply it directly on stain. Gently scrub the stained area with the paste and a clean cloth. Rinse the area with warm water.

Step 5: Repeat As Necessary

Repeat Steps 1-4 until stain is completely gone. Once the stain is removed, launder item as usual.
