Materials Needed

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Dish washing detergent
  • Laundry detergent
  • Clean cloths and sponges

Step 1: Blotting

First, you’ll want to start by blotting up as much of the mustard stain as possible. Use a clean cloth or sponge to blot the stained area. Do not scrub. This will help to keep the stain from spreading around bed.

Step 2: White Vinegar Solution

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a bowl or bucket. Make sure the mixture is not too strong – if you find it too strong, add more water. Dip a clean cloth into the vinegar solution and begin to lightly scrub stained area. Continue until entire stain is gone. Rinse with clean water.

Step 3: Baking Soda Treatment

If the vinegar solution did not completely remove the stain, mix together 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of water. Stir until it forms a paste. Spread the paste over the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Wet a clean cloth with water and gently scrub the paste away. Rinse with clean water.

Step 4: Laundry Detergent

For tougher mustard stains, mix 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent and 1 cup of water in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth in solution and begin to scrub the stained area. Continue until the stain has been removed. Rinse with clean water.

Step 5: Dishwashing Detergent

If the stain persists, mix 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and 1 cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and begin to scrub stained area.Continue until the stain has been removed. Rinse with clean water.

Step 6: Final Cleaning

Finally, mix 1 teaspoon of white vinegar and 1 quart of warm water in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth into solution and wipe away any remaining residue from the mustard stain. Allow the pet bed to dry before putting it back into use.
