When you have a mustard stain on your pavers or concrete, you need to act fast! Mustard stains can be incredibly difficult to shift once they have had time to sink into the surface. You should aim to clean it up as quickly as possible. Don’t worry though, there are several simple steps that you can take to eliminate the stain.

Getting Rid of Fresh Mustard Stains

If the mustard stain is fresh, you will only need a few basic supplies to tackle it. Here’s what you need:

  • Dish soap
  • Bucket
  • Sponge
  • Rags
  • Household bleach (optional)

Start by mixing mild dish soap with warm water in a bucket. Use a sponge to dip into the solution and then sponged the affected area until the stain is gone. If the stain persists, you can try adding a small amount of chlorine bleach to the mixture. Pour the mixture onto the affected area and leave it to sit for 10 minutes. Once the time is up, rinse it off with warm water and a sponge. Dry with a rag and leave to air dry.

Removing Dried Mustard Stains

Stains that have been left to dry can be a bit more stubborn to remove. You will need following items to tackle it:

  • Steel wool pad
  • Heavy duty cleaner
  • Broom
  • Garden hose

Begin by scrubbing affected area with a steel wool pad. This will help to break up the dried mustard and make it easier to remove. Next, spray the area with a heavy duty cleaner and allow it to sit for five minutes. Then, scrub area again with steel wool pad. Sweep the area with a broom to loosen the stain before spraying with a garden hose. Leave to air dry before checking to see if the stain is gone.

Maintaining Your Pavers

The best way to protect your pavers from mustard stains is to maintain them regularly. Brush and sweep away any dirt and debris that accumulates over time. Allowing dirt to build-up will just encourage stains to stick more easily. The area will also stay cleaner much longer if you seal the pavers. Sealing will also help to reduce the spread of the stain and make it easier to remove.
