Start by blotting up excess moisture with a paper towel or a clean cloth. Don’t try to rub away stain as this will only smear it worse.
Mix one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of cool water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently blot the stained area. Do not rub or scrub.
After you’ve finished applying the detergent, rinse the area with a clean cloth dipped in some clean, cool water. Blot until the area is free of all detergent suds.
If the stain remains, try making a paste with a combination of three parts baking soda and one part water. Gently rub paste into the mustard-stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes before wiping away completely.
If your mattress has a removable cover, remove it and put it into the washing machine on the cold cycle.
Keep mustard stains away by using a mattress protector. These are readily available at department stores and online, and provide a waterproof barrier between you and the bed. They are an easy and convenient way to make sure your mattress stays clean and without tacky splotches.
