Step 1: Pretreat the Stain

The best way to tackle a mustard stain is to treat it immediately. Take a clean cloth and dab it into some cold water. Gently press onto the mustard stain to help release it from fabric.

Step 2: Apply Detergent Directly to the Stain

Take a liquid detergent, such as Woolite or Persil, and apply it directly to the stained area. Rub detergent into the stain gently with your fingertips or a soft brush. Allow the detergent to sit in the stain for a few minutes.

Step 3: Rinse off Detergent

Rinse off the detergent by running cold water over the stain. Be sure to keep the pressure light and keep rubbing the stain while rinsing. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2 and 3.

Step 4: Wash the Item According to Care Label Directions

Finally, launder the item according to the care label directions. Check the garment after washing to make sure the stain has been removed. If not, repeat steps 2-4.

Additional Tips

  • Always check the care label directions before laundering an item to avoid damage.
  • Never use hot water for mustard stains as this will only set the stain further.
  • You may need to soak clothing items overnight to remove stubborn mustard stains.
