The initial step is important and can determine the outcome of the cleaning process. Use a clean white cloth and firmly press onto the stained part of the fabric. Do not rub or scrub the mustard away, as it will spread the stain even more. Moreover, never rub on a stain as it might damage the fibers.
Once you’ve blotted away what you can, it’s time to saturate the stain. Begin by mixing up a solution of water and a mild detergent. Next, apply it directly on the stain and leave it to soak for about five minutes. This will help break down mustard and make it easier to remove.
Now, you can start working on removing the actual stain. Using a cloth, rub the mixture into the fabric gently. Make sure to keep changing out the cloth with a new one if it gets too saturated with mixture. Once you feel like there's no trace of the mustard left, remove the soapy mixture with a clean damp cloth.
The next step is to rinse the fabric with cold water. Make sure to use cold water only, as hot water will set the stain and cause it to remain on fabric.
Finally, once you’ve rinsed fabric with cold water, let it air dry. Avoid using a hair dryer or other forms of heat to dry your garment as it could cause yellowing, shrinkage or misshaping.
