If the furniture in question is upholstered with fabric, the first step is to dab the stain with a soft cloth or paper towel to remove as much of the mustard as possible. You can then take water and a mild detergent, such as liquid dish soap, and create a light lather. Then use a clean damp cloth to blot the affected area with lather. After blotting the stain, rinse off the lather with cool water and a cloth. You may also want to use a white vinegar solution and blot the stain with a clean cloth. Make sure you take extra care not to rub the stained area as it could cause the stain to set.
Removing mustard stains from leather furniture is more difficult than from fabric. Begin by using a dry cloth to remove as much of mustard from the leather as possible. A small amount of saddle soap can then be applied to a cloth and used to gently wipe the stained area. The saddle soap should only be used sparingly. Once the area has been wiped, use a clean damp cloth to rinse off the saddle soap. Lastly, use a leather conditioner to restore natural sheen of the leather.
To remove mustard stains from hardwood furniture, begin by taking equal parts of white vinegar and lukewarm water into a bowl. Soak a soft cloth in the solution and wring it out to remove any excess liquid before applying it to the stained area. Wipe the stained area gently and then dry the area with a clean cloth. The vinegar solution helps remove the stain without damaging the finish on the wood.
Mustard stains can be stubborn but with the right method they can be removed. Following steps outlined here can help you easily remove mustard stains from furniture surfaces, whether they be fabric, leather, or hardwood.
