What You'll Need

  • A few drops of liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Old toothbrush or a soft-bristled brush
  • Clean cloths

Step 1: Blot or Scrape Off Excess Mustard

Start by using a dry cloth to blot the flip-flop to remove as much of the mustard as possible. If there is any residue left on the flip-flop, scrape it off using a butter knife.

Step 2: Create a Cleaning Solution

Next, create a cleaning solution by combining a few drops of liquid laundry detergent with a cup of warm water. Stir until detergent is dissolved. Alternatively, you can also use white vinegar instead of laundry detergent. Add one tablespoon of white vinegar in a cup of water.

Step 3: Soak the Flip-Flop

Once you create the cleaning solution, soak flip-flop in it for 10 minutes. This will help loosen and remove the mustard stain.

Step 4: Brush Away the Stain

After the flip-flop has soaked in the cleaning solution, take it out and scrub away the stain with an old toothbrush or a soft-bristled brush. Be sure to use gentle circular motions to avoid damaging the surface.

Step 5: Rinse and Dry

Finally, rinse the flip-flop with cold water and then dry it with a clean cloth. Once completely dry, your flip-flops should look as good as new.
