Mustard stains need to be treated immediately to prevent them from setting into the fabric. If the stain has been on there for more than an hour, brush as much of it off as possible before proceeding to the next steps.
Using a pre-treatment product or a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water, dab a small amount onto the stain. Gently rub the mixture into the fabric using your fingertips or a soft cloth. Let the pre-treatment sit for about five minutes, then rinse it with cold water.
Once you’ve pre-treated stain, launder fabric according to the care instructions on label. Be sure to use cold water and the appropriate detergent. If stain remains, try repeating the pre-treatment and washing steps.
After the item has been washed and dried, inspect the fabric to make sure the stain has been completely removed. If it hasn’t, repeat pre-treatment and washing steps until the stain is gone.
