Mustard stains are usually stubborn and hard to get rid of. If you have accidentally stained your favourite collared shirt with mustard, then don’t worry. It is possible to remove the stain without damaging your shirt. Here's how to remove mustard stains from a collared shirt.
The sooner you act on the stain, the better. The quicker you address the stain, the easier it will be to remove. Take off the shirt and put it into sink filled with cold water as soon as possible. Cold water helps in minimizing the stain and prevents it from settling in the fabric further.
Create a mixture of one tablespoon dishwashing detergent, two tablespoons white vinegar, and a cup of warm water. This solution acts as a pre-treatment and helps in lifting the stain from fabric.
Dip a clean cloth into the solution and start blottting mustard stain gently. Make sure to use a blotting motion so as to minimize further damage to the fabric. Keep doing it for a few minutes until the stain has been lifted from the shirt.
Rinse the shirt with cold water to remove the residual solution and stain. Make sure to do this properly or the residue solution might cause permanent damage to the fabric.
Once the stain is removed, put the collared shirt in the washing machine. Use cold water and a mild detergent to wash the shirt. Avoid using hot water or bleach while washing, as they might make the stain permanent.
Once the shirt is dried, check if mustard stain is completely gone or not. If it isn’t, rinse and repeat the process.
