Getting mustard stains out of chambray can be tricky but it is possible. The best way to clean your chambray shirt of the offending yellow mess is to mix up a solution of warm water and a gentle detergent, submerge the stained area, and let it soak for an hour or so. After that, rub the stain with a soft bristled brush to get out as much of the stain as possible.

If these methods don’t work and the stain persists, try dabbing the stain with a mixture of white vinegar and lemon juice. This natural remover is not only safe for your chambray shirt, but it works great for mustard stains. Simply pour the mixture directly onto the stain and allow it to set for about five minutes.

Once the stain has had some time to sit in the vinegar-lemon solution, rinse it off with lukewarm water. Then, put shirt in the wash and use a regular laundry detergent. For extra stubborn stains, add a small amount of bleach (test a small area first to ensure that your particular chambray fabric is bleach-safe).

Finally, once the wash cycle is complete, hang your chambray shirt up to air dry so that the mustard stain is not set into the fabric. With a little patience, you can get your favorite chambray shirt looking as good as new in no time.
