What You Will Need

  • Dish soap
  • Water
  • Towel
  • Laundry detergent

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Using a paper towel or clean cloth, blot the area where the mustard has spilled as soon as possible. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing as it could spread the stain and make it more difficult to remove. If excess mustard is present, blot until it’s absorbed.

Step 2: Soak in Water & Dish Soap

Fill a sink or bowl with cool water and add a few drops of dish soap. Submerge the stained area in the water and let soak for up to 30 minutes. This will allow the dish soap to break down the oils in the stain.

Step 3: Rinse With Clean Water

Once the mustard has soaked, rinse it with cold water. A small amount of laundry detergent can also be added to the cold water to help loosen any remaining particles. Again, avoid scrubbing or rubbing the fabric as it could spread the stain.

Step 4: Dry the Area

Gently blot the area with a clean, dry towel to absorb as much moisture as possible. Avoid wringing the fabric or putting it in dryer until you're sure the stain is gone. Allow the fabric to air dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
