The faster you can treat the stain, the better the outcome. Begin by scraping off any excess mustard off the surface of the dress. Then rinse or flush the stain under cool running water. This will help remove the majority of stain before you begin cleaning.
To tackle the mustard stain, mix one tablespoon of liquid detergent per gallon of warm water. Place dress inside the mixture and let it sit for up to 30 minutes. Check on the fabric periodically to ensure stain is being removed.
Next, apply a pre-treatment stain remover directly onto the stained area. Rub the remover gently into the fabric so it can penetrate the fibers. Let dress sit for 10 minutes to allow the stain remover to work its magic.
Once the stain remover has had time to work, put the dress in the washing machine. Select the warm water setting with your regular laundry detergent. Allow the dress to go through the entire cycle. If needed, repeat the laundering process until stain is completely gone.
Finally, hang dress up to dry. Resist the urge to use the dryer, as this can set the stain permanently. If the stain remains after the laundry process, repeat step 3 and 4 until it vanishes.
Mustard stains don't have to be the end of your perfect Aline dress. With these five steps, you can be sure to get your dress back to looking as good as new!
