Materials You'll Need
- White cloth
- White paper towels
- Cold water
- Laundry detergent or Dawn dish soap
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- Rubbing alcohol
Follow these Steps:
- As soon as you notice the mustard stain, use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot up as much of it as possible. Do not rub at the stain!
- Once you've blotted as much as possible, rinse area under cold water. Do not use hot water, as this will set the stain.
- Now, mix a solution of laundry detergent or Dawn dish soap and cold water. Soak the garment in the mixture for about 15 minutes.
- Next, make a paste of white vinegar and baking soda, and apply it to the stain. Allow paste to sit on the stain for 15 minutes, then rinse off with cold water.
- Finally, take a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol and dab at stain until it's removed. Rinse the area with cold water and let the garment air dry.
Tips for Prevention and Removal
- Always check clothing item labels before using any cleaning methods. Some fabrics may be delicate and require special care.
- Do not put the item in dryer until you are sure the stain is gone. The heat from the dryer can set the stain, making it impossible to remove.
- If all else fails, bring your item to a professional cleaner who can give it a deep clean without damaging the fabric.
