To clean mud stains from stockings, the first thing you need to do is gently rub the stains with a soft cloth sprinkled with laundry detergent. Make sure to dab and not scrub, to avoid damaging the material of the stocking. When the stains start to lift, rinse area with lukewarm water. Once finished, hang the stockings up to dry.
If the stain doesn't come off with laundry detergent, try rubbing it with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. Mix equal parts of each ingredients and apply to the stain. Work the mixture into the material with your fingers, then rinse area with cold water. Again, make sure to hang the stockings up to dry afterwards.
If the mud stains are still there after trying the above methods, mix an ounce of dish soap with 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide and 1 tbsp. of borax. Apply the paste to the stains and let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing with cool water. Hang the stockings up to dry immediately afterwards.
The key to removing mud stains from stockings is to be gentle and not scrub too hard. Start by using the simplest methods (laundry detergent or vinegar & baking soda) and only move on to stronger solutions if needed. Now your stockings will look like new again!
