If you catch the mud stain right away, then it’s relatively easy to remove. Start by scraping off any excess mud with a spoon or the back of a butter knife. Then, use a cloth to blot up as much of the moisture as you can. Avoid rubbing, because this will only spread the mud further onto fabric.
Next, rinse the mud stain with cold water and then apply a liquid detergent directly onto the stain. Let the detergent sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water again. Once you’ve done that, let the skirt dry, and if the mud is still there, repeat these steps until the stain is gone.
If the mud stain has been sitting on the fabric for a while, then it’s going to take a little more effort to get it out. Start by soaking the skirt in cold water for 30 minutes. This helps to loosen up any set-in dirt. Afterward, fill a bucket with hot water and mix in a cup of white vinegar. Soak the skirt in this solution for another 30 minutes.
Once you’ve finished soaking, wash the skirt with laundry detergent and rinse it with cold water. If the stain is still visible, you can also use a stain remover, like OxiClean, to help lift the mud out. Follow the instructions on product and let the skirt air dry after washing.
The best way to get rid of mud stains is to prevent them from happening in the first place. Whenever you go outdoors, try to wear shoes that cover your feet, like sneakers or boots. This will help protect your clothes from dirt and mud.
If you do end up getting mud on your skirt, don’t panic! With a few simple steps and the right products, you can get those mud stains out quickly and easily.
