Step 1: Pre-Treating the Mud Stain

Begin by mixing water and a gentle detergent in a bowl. Dip a white cloth or sponge in the solution and gently dab it onto the mud stain. Do not rub or scrub the area as this can cause the mud stain to spread further. Work your way from the outside of the stain to the centre, taking care not to make the area wetter than necessary. Take your time when pre-treating the mud stain as this is the best way to ensure that the stain is removed without damaging the fabric.

Step 2: Washing the Skirt

Once the stain has been pre-treated, it’s time to wash the skirt. Before placing the skirt in the washing machine, check the care label first for any special instructions relating to washing by hand or using a delicate cycle. Only wash the skirt with other similarly coloured items to avoid any colour transfer ruining the fabric. Most mud stains should come out with one wash cycle, though very stubborn stains may need a second cycle.

Step 3: Drying the Skirt

Finally, it’s time to dry the skirt. It’s best to hang the skirt up to air dry on a clothesline or drying rack in order to avoid damaging fabric. Make sure the area is clean and free from any dirt or dust before hanging up the skirt to dry. Finishing up, use a lint roller or brush to smooth out any wrinkles and, once the skirt is completely dry, it should be ready to wear.
