Begin the stain removal process by gently blotting the excess mud with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the fabric as this could spread the stain and damage the delicate silk fibers.
For a more stubborn stain, lightly spray a pre-treatment stain remover onto the area. Allow product to sit on fabric for 5–10 minutes before washing. Take care not to saturate the fabric as this could cause the mud to spread to other areas.
Using cold water, hand wash the fabric using a mild detergent or baby shampoo. Gently rub the stained area between your fingers and work in a circular motion. Rinse the fabric thoroughly afterward to remove all traces of detergent or solvent.
For a deep-set stain, allow the fabric to soak in a solution of warm water and liquid detergent for 30 minutes. Give fabric a gentle rub every 10 minutes. After soaking, rinse the fabric with cold water until all traces of soap are gone.
Air dry the fabric in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. If you prefer, you can also machine dry the fabric on a low setting. However, make sure the temperature does not exceed 30 degrees Celsius as this could damage the fabric.
When the fabric is completely dry, test a small hidden area for colorfastness. If the fabric fades or changes color, do not use any additional cleaning methods.
