Before you start to clean the stain, it’s important to remove any excess mud, dirt or debris that may be clinging to silk crepe de chine. To do this, use a spoon or a butter knife to gently scrape off the dry mud. Make sure not to scrub harshly, as it may damage fabric. Once you’ve removed any excess mud, use a damp cloth to wipe away any remaining dirt and debris.
To further treat the mud stain, apply a small amount of an enzymatic stain remover to the affected area. This is important, as enzymatic removers are specifically designed to break down the proteins in mud stains. If you don’t have an enzymatic remover on hand, make sure to use a detergent that does not contain bleach or optical brighteners, as these can damage the fabric.
Once stain remover has had time to work, put the fabric into a washing machine on a delicate cycle. Do not add any laundry detergent or other cleaning products, just use water. Afterwards, air dry the fabric before using it again.
