What You’ll Need

  • A gentle detergent
  • A bowl of cold water
  • A cloth
  • A towel
  • A spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • A sponge

Step 1: Pre-Treat with Detergent and Water

Mix a few drops of mild detergent in bowl of cold water. Soak a cloth in the solution and use it to pre-treat the muddy stain. Gently rub the area to loosen any dirt or buildup in the fabric. Rinse the cloth in the cold water mixture and repeat until the mud stain has been removed.

Step 2: Blot with a Towel

Once the mud stain has been pre-treated, use a clean towel to blot the area. Make sure to press gently and not rub fabric as this could cause the stain to spread further. Keep blotting until no more mud is visible.

Step 3: Spray with Vinegar Solution

Create a solution of equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the area generously and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. During this time, vinegar will help to loosen any stubborn mud stains and also act as a natural deodorizer. After the 15 minutes, blot the area with a clean towel to remove the moisture.

Step 4: Use a Sponge

Apply another round of the detergent and cold water mixture to a sponge. Gently scrub the area to remove any remaining mud. Carefully rinse off the soap and water with a damp cloth and then dry with a clean towel. Be sure to avoid wringing the fabric so that it doesn't get stretched out.
