Before tackling the mud stains, give your Shantung fabric a quick rinse with cold water. This will help to reduce the size of the stain and make it easier to remove.
Apply some dish soap directly onto the stain and use a vacuum cleaner to suck up as much of the mud as possible. Be sure to leave the soap on the stain for a few minutes before vacuuming.
Once you have vacuumed up the mud, rinse the fabric with cold water again. This will help to remove any residue from the soap.
For more stubborn stains, apply a synthetic detergent onto the stain and use a cloth sponge to gently scrub the stain away. Don’t be too rough with material as you don’t want to damage it.
Once you are done cleaning the stain, mix a solution of one part white vinegar and four parts cold water and spray it onto the material. This will help to neutralize any odors.
Once you have completed all of above steps, it’s time to let your Shantung air dry. Hang the fabric outside or near an open window and let it dry naturally. Avoid putting the fabric in the dryer, as this could shrink the material.
Mud stains on Shantung fabrics can be a bit tricky to remove, but with right products and a bit of elbow grease, they can easily be eliminated. Follow instructions above and your favorite Shantung will be back to looking like brand new in no time!
