Run cool water over the stained area until the mud loosens and begins to wash away. Use your fingers to lightly scrub the area, but be careful not to damage the delicate fabric threads.
Mix a gentle soap with cool water in a bowl to create a solution for cleaning the stain. Popular soaps to use include baby shampoo, Woolite, or a mild laundry detergent.
Submerge the stained part of the lace in soapy solution and let it soak for at least an hour. Make sure that all parts of stain are submerged completely.
Once the lace has soaked, rinse the stained area with warm water. If necessary, repeat steps 1-4 until the stain is completely gone.
Once all the mud is removed, fill a sink with warm water and a few drops of a gentle soap. Gently scrub the lace with your fingers, then rinse with cool water to remove all traces of soap.
Lay the rosepoint lace flat on a towel and allow it to air dry. Do not hang lace up to dry, as this could cause it to stretch and lose its original shape.
Cleaning mud stains from rosepoint lace may seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be! With the right technique and a few household items, you can have your favorite lace looking as good as new in no time.
